Where do you start untangling the mess?

Constantly busy with your software project but seeing little progress? Focus on mastering iterations, quality, and scaling. Build momentum by fixing the real bottleneck.

Ever feel like your software project keeps you constantly busy, but no matter how much you do, real progress is always just out of reach?

You’re putting out fires, managing dependencies, and handling the day-to-day chaos, but the big wins? They seem to slip further away the harder you work. You’re stuck in an endless loop of activity without forward motion.

Here’s the thing: there’s a way to break that cycle. By following a structured but flexible approach, you can stop spinning your wheels and finally build momentum. Here’s how I help my clients do just that:

1. Master fast, high-quality iterations – get ideas into production quickly and reliably.
2. Refine quality – create systems that ensure quality, even as things grow more complex.
3. Manage complexity – make sure you can scale without collapsing under the weight of your code.
4. Optimize for the long-term – introduce predictability and clear planning.

And while this framework provides a solid path forward, it’s not set in stone–there’s flexibility to adapt as needed.

The important thing is building a foundation that supports real progress.

If you’re always jumping to long-term planning without solid delivery or quality processes, it’s no surprise things aren’t moving.

Where do you start? This can be tricky. Ask yourself: “What’s the one bottleneck keeping me stuck?”.

Then, consider whether fixing this bottleneck will change your output or if it depends on something else.

Repeat until you find the bottleneck that is currently controlling your output.

Fix it, then start over with the process to find the next bottleneck.
